Winter Works is led by Dr. Amos Winter, the Germeshausen Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Director of the K. Lisa Yang Global Engineering and Research (GEAR) Center at MIT. He is a world-recognized leader in design and product innovation and is co-author of Global by Design: How to Create Innovations That Scale, Travel, and Transform. Dr. Winter pioneered techno-economic forecasting: a method for mapping market gaps and the limitations of existing products, then applying engineering science, product design, and financial modeling to forecast how to realize new, disruptive, globally-valuable innovations.
Dr. Winter has worked with numerous multinationals, startups, development agencies, and governments around the world to create high-impact technologies across sectors including water, agriculture, energy, global health, and automotive. Many resulting products—including wheelchairs and prosthetic limbs, desalination solutions, and precision irrigation technologies—have been commercialized or are on the path to market.
